HCI Tackles Forest Fire

Showing what they could do in a different kind of firefight, HCI responded to a forest fire on the outskirts of Rochester County. The blaze, which was only reported after several groves had already caught fire, was a difficult one to contain.

To get control of the blaze, they called in HCI’s “Firebird,” a specially rigged Spijker and Wingtips KA-29 with water tanks.

Firefighters fought the blaze for several hours, eventually beating the fire down with several teams. “They hit it from the air and poured gallons on it from the ground. It was fortunate for us that HCI has field trucks and helicopters. That blaze could have easily overrun the forest.” Said a Rochester policeman on the scene.
