Feral Marine, the East River based ship building company, has nearly completed its Fire Cat, a fireboat that has a progressive design and high functionality.
“The catamaran hull allows for greater stability,” said one engineer we talked to at the East River docks. “And the ships size is perfect for harbors. With that configuration, the boat can easily access tight spaces while turning rapidly in an emergency.”
Firefighters invited to see the new Fire Cat were equally impressed. “Less pitching and rolling makes rescues and firefighting easier than ever,” said one firefighter, “and that fully functional crane can make water rescues a cinch!”
Though no date has been set by the company for a release, Feral Marine is clearly nearing completion of the craft, adding extras and details that would impress the stingiest of fire crews.
“It’s a product targeted at harbormasters and fire crews, but you could easily see it in use as an all purpose rescue craft,” said Sketch Sun of the WBA, “heck, I’m thinking about buying one to donate to WAX (Waterbank Auxiliary)!”
